Tennis

Tennis at Waverley is a year-round sport thanks to our four artificial grass courts, all of which are floodlit, and to our active members. Social tennis sessions take place throughout the year and for those who are more competitive there are plenty of inter club matches. Waverley is an LTA Registered Club which enables us to participate in the local and national inter-club competitions run by the East of Scotland LTA (ESLTA) and LTA. Registration brings many requirements regarding good practice which we fulfil – see the Club Policies section.

Tennis Coaching

Our club has its own tennis academy, Waverley Tennis Academy, originally founded by LTA Pro Tam Bruce. The new programme, established in 2016, introduced many new ideas and different options but keeps the same philosophy: making tennis accessible to all and helping people get the most out of tennis. See the section Waverley Tennis Academy.

As an LTA registered club, any coach working at Waverley who is Level 2 or above must be an LTA Accredited Coach. This accreditation ensures that any such coach is up to date on training courses and is insured, is trained in first aid and safeguarding and child protection, and is a member of the Protecting for Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.

Social Tennis

Year round turn up and mix-in sessions. These are usually on Saturday mornings from 10am to 12 noon and Wednesday evenings from 7pm to 9pm, throughout the year, but are sometimes suspended when there’s a tournament on or during the main league match season.

Competitive Tennis

Waverley offers lots of opportunities to play competitive tennis. For juniors, the tennis coaches run match plays which are also open to non-members. For adults, there are box leagues for both singles and doubles, and social tournaments, also open to non-members, run by the tennis coaches. The club championship is held at the end of the summer.

Waverley teams participate in a number of inter-club competitions including summer leagues, Scottish Cup, Pringle Cup, winter league and veterans league.
