Waverley Tennis Academy – Overview
Overview
The Academy was set up in 2006 with a couple of dozen juniors. It has continued to evolve and expand ever since and we now have nearly 100 kids from 4-17 years old.
Our goal quite simply is to produce tennis players and to help everyone be as good as they can be.
The programme is headed up by LTA Pro Tam Bruce and Performance Coach Ross Murray
Colin Clancy of Edinburgh Leisure is in charge of fitness testing. Colin is Hon.Grad. in Sports and Excercise and certified Strength and Conditioning coach
Programme Structure
Novels: 1 hour squad per week
Novelettes: 1 hour squad per week plus a semi-private lesson with an LTA Leader.
Novels Plus: 1 hour squad per week plus a semi-private with Tam or Ross
Futures: 1.5 hour squad per week plus a semi-private with Tam or Ross
Performance 1.5 hour squad per week plus 2 semi-privates with Tam and/or Ross
FEES
Novels. £8/hr
Novelettes. £8/hr for squad and £5/hr semi with LTA Leader
Novels Plus. £8/hr for squad. and £10/hr semi with Pro.
Futures. £8/hr for squad. and £10/hr semi with Pro.
Performance £6/hr for squad and £8/hr semis with Pro
FITNESS TESTING
Players are tested by Functional Movement Screening, Areas of weakness are identified and targetted specific excercises are designed to help the young athletes. . Cost included in term fee. For Novels Plus, Futures and Performance
FITNESS TRAINING
We also have a general fitness session once per week during Autumn and Spring terms. This is not compulsory. Available to anyone training minimum of twicw per week Cost included in term fee. Novels Plus Futures and Performance only.
Colin Crerar of Soulfit. www.soulfit.co.uk runs these sessions. Colin is a Level 3 Advanced Instructor with BSc ( Hons )in Physiology and Sports Science and is an LTA Development Coach
VIDEO ANALYSIS
We use this every term for technical development. Cost included in fee. Novels Plus, Futures and Performance
GOALS
Two main goals are selected by the player each term. These become the core of the semi-private lessons.
MINI LEAGUES
Novels Plus, Futures and Performance all compete in these. Compulsory to remain in the programme.
Not available to Novels

PLAYER CHARTER
I,
Hereby commit to:
Represent my club in events for which I am selected
Complete all mini-league matches each term
Abide by the yearly training programme planned by my coaches.
Inform coaches if unable to attend80% attendance required
Wear appropriate athletic clothing and always bring liquid and sunscreen/shades as necessary.
Compete in the club tournament in appropriate age band/s
Compete in Waverley’s Easter tournament and local summer competitions if not away on holiday
Adopt model behaviour on and off court
Respect the other players in the programme.
Show determination and fighting spirit at all times in training or competition
Attend annual summer training week-ends.
I understand that if I break the articles of the charter I may not be offered a place in the programme for the following term
